The Hosmer Mountain Boys: High-Octane Retro Bluegrass

The Hosmer Mountain Boys are a hard-driving, vintage-style bluegrass band commanding attention across the New England acoustic scene. Infusing an authentic, 1950s bluegrass style with relentless, high-gear energy, the group has quickly transformed from regional standouts into international performers.Their energetic, nostalgic sound has earned them significant accolades on major traditional music stages:

• "Fan Favorite" Title at the 2023 Podunk Bluegrass Festival.

• Featured Showcase Performers on the legendary WoodSongs Old-Time Radio Hour in Lexington, Kentucky.

• International Touring Bill cross-cutting the Atlantic to headline the 2024 Battlefield Bluegrass Festival in England.

The Lineup: Youthful Fire Meets Veteran Pedigree
The band’s core energy stems from a shared lifelong obsession with traditional roots music.

Co-founders Keegan Day (lead vocals/guitar) and Simon Brogie (banjo/vocals) first crossed paths at Mando Camp North in 2018 when they were just 16 years old, instantly bonding over a mutual reverence for the hard-driving rhythms of Flatt & Scruggs.

• Simon Brogie (Banjo): Born at the base of Connecticut's actual Hosmer Mountain, Brogie has been hailed by festival-goers at the historic Thomas Point Beach Bluegrass Festival as "Connecticut’s best-kept secret" for his blistering, textbook five-string style.

• Keegan Day (Guitar/Lead Vocals): Bringing a commanding lead vocal, Keegan's highly precise flatpicking and rhythm work draw direct lineage from historical guitar titans Riley Puckett, Don Reno, and the syncopated thumb-picking style of Lester Flatt.

• Red Day (Mandolin): The newest addition to the configuration, Red injects fresh acoustic drive, sharp chop rhythms, and dynamic instrumental counterpoint into the band's rolling sets.

• Cathy Bumgarner Day (Fiddle): Bringing an assertive, lifelong mastery to the fiddle, Cathy provides the soaring instrumental lines that lock their retro melodies into place.

• Tom Bowman (Bass/Baritone Vocals): A multi-decade bedrock of the New England acoustic community, Bowman anchors the group's timing on the upright bass while completing their classic baritone vocal stack.
