Cost: $60 donation plus $15 fee for 2026 NMJL Card, which is yours to keep.

Learn to play American Mah Jongg using a National Mah Jongg League (NMJL) card and rules. Mah Jongg is a tile game that originated in China hundreds of years ago. There are over 40 different variations.

Eighty nine years ago the NMJL was formed and Americanized the game. To date the NMJL version is very popular and being played all over the world. Once you learn it, it is easy to adapt to other variations. It is a thinking game that uses a combination of luck and strategy. It is social, yet can be very competitive.

During the six weeks you will be introduced to all aspects of the game from start to finish.

Materials:

Each participant must purchase a 2026 National Mahjongg League Card ($15 fee added to the price of the class). Mahjongg sets will be provided by the instructor.

About the Instructor:

Barbara Hahn learned to play American Mah jongg using the National Mah Jongg League Card and Rules in 1999. She has been teaching the game for the last 15 years in various settings including local senior centers, libraries, and running tournaments as fund raisers for various organizations. She currently resides in East Hampton.
