4-Week Oil Painting Class: Painting the Features

Course Objective:

Learn to paint the individual features of the face in oils, using photo references (provided by the instructor.) Each week will focus on a different feature. Students will develop an understanding for simplifying complex features into basic shapes, observing value relationships, mixing accurate skin tones, and using brushwork to create the illusion of form.

By the end of the class, students will:

  • Understand the individual feature's structure, proportions, and lighting.
  • Practice painting individual features, nose, mouth, eyes and ears.
  • Explore warm and cool shifts in skin color.
  • Mix convincing flesh tones.
  • Control values and edges effectively.

Each class will begin with approximately 1 hour of live demonstration, followed by guided painting time.
